Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has confirmed Prof Tor Joe Iorapu as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Benue State University, Makurdi. The announcement was made known via a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Anthony Ijohor on Tuesday.
The statement reads, “His Excellency, Governor Samuel Ortom, who is the visitor to the Benue State University, Makurdi is in receipt of the Council Report submitted by the Pro-Chancellor and the Chairman of the University Governing Council in respect of the selection process of the next Vice-Chancellor at the Benue State University, Makurdi has transmitted the names of the three best candidates as required by the University Law to enable the Visitor complete the process of appointing a new Vice Chancellor for the Benue State University, Makurdi.
They are;
1. Prof Iorapu Tor Joe
2. Prof Edward Omudu
3. Prof Tarhule V. Vitalis
“In line with His Excellency policy to recognize merit, the candidate who came first has been appointed.”
The current VC, Msugh Moses Kembe’s tenure ends next month. Prof. Iorapu floored 27 professors who vied for the position after an examination.
Prof Iorapu Tor Joe, hails from Aliade in Benue State, Nigeria, attended Government College and College of Education, all in Katsina-Ala, Benue State; and the University of Jos, Nigeria, where he read Theatre Arts up to the PhD level.
